The building now known as The Loop Commons has a long and fascinating history in downtown Burlington. Originally built in 1873 as the Jones House hotel, it soon became a prominent lodging establishment in the young town. Ownership changed in 1915 and it became the Fritz-Karl Hotel. In 1918, they changed the name to the Hotel Badger because of the war with Germany.

In the 1960s, the building housed the popular Coach Lamp Restaurant. On October 27, 1968, burning toast triggered a devastating fire, destroying the second and third stories of the corner structure.

Over the next decades, the building housed various businesses including the Covered Wagon, the Corner House, the Eagle's Nest and Coach's Sports Bar and Grill.

After sitting vacant for a period and visibly crumbling, entrepreneurs Bevin and Anna Dawson purchased the property in 2018 to restore it to its former glory. They meticulously renovated the historic building, giving it new life as The Loop Commons - housing professional workspaces, event venues, a rock climbing gym and local businesses.

After over 140 years, the historic building is once again a proud anchor and vibrant hub in the downtown Burlington community.
